# Site02 | Observation atlas and historical flood animation

Open [the English explorer](Site02_Water_and_Ecology_Explorer.html). Choose **Ecology** or **Flood history** in the navigation. If the page was already open, reload it to load this update. Extract the whole ZIP together to preserve links to the GIS data, source PDFs and downloads.

## Detailed flora and fauna observations

The atlas embeds all 3,435 retained GBIF occurrence records, with 371 taxon labels. The reported coordinates of 212 records lie within Site02. Data cover 2020 to 20 September 2026 and the boundary plus a 2 km buffer; reported coordinate uncertainty is 0–100 m. These are the previously supplied records, not a new field survey.

- Filter by organism group, taxon, observation year, text search and reported site membership.
- Choose **Focus on Site02** for close context or **2 km context** for the wider setting.
- Use zoom and directional buttons, mouse drag, or arrow keys while the map is focused. Touch users can use the directional buttons; vertical page scrolling remains available.
- Select a point to inspect its date, uncertainty circle, coordinate, source, licence and GBIF flags. Nearby or overlapping records appear in a selector; observations have not been displaced to avoid overlaps.
- Use the accessible record list to select observations without clicking a map. The filtered CSV export contains every matching record, including records outside the current map view.
- Toggle the official native-vegetation community polygons for regional context. PCT 3376 is Southern Tableland Grassy Box Woodland; PCT 4085 is Southwest Tableland Gorges Riparian Shrubland. Other classified communities share a muted fill, with names on polygon hover.

The map uses GDA94 / MGA zone 55 (EPSG:28355). Record points use the projected coordinates in the original supplied occurrence table. Web coordinates are translated to a local origin and rounded to 0.01 m for storage, without improving the accuracy of the source. Context hydrography, available local roads and vegetation shapes are simplified with a 2 m tolerance for display only; original GIS layers are retained. Counts apply to the complete filter, not the current viewport.

Repeated observations can concern the same organism. Uneven survey effort, identification flags, time and coordinate uncertainty affect interpretation. Zero reported uncertainty does not establish exact accuracy. Five plant observations have reported coordinates inside Site02; the map cannot establish a complete site planting or habitat inventory. A selected error circle is the publisher's reported uncertainty, not a measured confidence interval. Contemporary records do not identify organisms affected by a historic flood.

## Historical flood comparison

The four frames reproduce the official 2020 study's historical TUFLOW peak reconstructions. They are a comparison across events, not a continuous simulation through time.

| Event | Queens Bridge peak gauge height | Status | Figure | Figures PDF page |
|---|---:|---|---|---:|
| May 1925 | 10.7 m | Approximate | C2.3 | 64 |
| August 1974 | 9.5 m | Reported | C2.4 | 65 |
| October 1976 | 9.2 m | Estimated from flood marks | C2.5 | 66 |
| December 2010 | 8.4 m | Reported | C2.6, sheet 1 | 67 |

The enlarged 2010 corridor map is C2.6, sheet 2, PDF page 68. All page numbers here are one-based PDF viewer pages. Peak gauge values are from Table 2.1, report PDF page 23 (printed page 7). Event accounts are on PDF pages 24–27, Sections 2.4.2–2.4.8. The supplied original reports retain their document notices and full methodological context.

Gauge zero is stated as 564.10 m AHD in the report. Gauge height is not water depth at Site02 and is not the offset used in the separate uncalibrated terrain scenarios. The official image figures are not georeferenced overlays of the supplied redline: no precise Site02 area, depth or damage calculation is derived from them. Use Morisset Street, Buttles Creek and Queens Bridge to orient the local corridor in the source maps. Original image geography, legends, scales and source notices are preserved. Differences in dam configuration, flood evidence and reconstruction methods must be considered when comparing events.

## The December 2010 event

The second animation steps between four documented gauge milestones from Section 2.4.8, report PDF page 27:

| Reported local time | Gauge evidence |
|---|---|
| 9 December, 06:00 | 5.0 m |
| 9 December, 08:30 | 8.0 m |
| 9 December, 10:05–10:40 | Peak 8.4 m |
| 10 December, 14:30 | Below 4.2 m; exact stage not supplied |

The chart places these milestones on a real elapsed-time axis, spanning 32.5 hours. Playback uses equal viewing pauses between milestones, not proportional durations. There is no interpolation or invented continuous hydrograph. The final downward marker is an upper bound. The adjacent map remains the official peak reconstruction throughout; it does not imply that this footprint existed at each of the four times.

## Verification

The supplied APRX, occurrence CSV, model rasters and original PDFs are retained. Record counts, projected coordinate consistency, filter behaviour, history source pages, embedded assets, local links and JavaScript syntax are checked. Maps are inspected as exported images. Browser rendering and live click testing remain unverified because the local-file route was blocked by the browser security policy; no alternative browser route was used. See `Metadata/observation_history_qa.json` for the check results.
